Wow! What a way to start Round 2 for the Orlando Magic! With a dominating win over the Atlanta Hawks, 114-71, the Magic showed up and clearly had no mercy. I still haven’t wiped the smile off my face!
I had the pleasure of going to the playoff game last night, and I have to say I witnessed a perfect synergy from our boys as the Amway Arena lit up again and again over dunks, hustle, rebounds, blocks, alley-oops, 3 pointers, etc. I feel like we are unstoppable!
There were a few things floating around before last night’s game – a few “worry” points that were being discussed by everyone.
One topic discussed was whether or not this long rest the Magic had from sweeping the Bobcats would affect them. Colleen expressed in a recent interview over at The No Look Pass that “as soon as they hear our loud crowd, they will get their energy kickin’ in no time at all!” This was clearly the case last night. The game started out slow, but at some point (around the 2nd Q), the Magic just became completely fearless and not only showed no mercy for the Hawks but they didn’t give up at all – even when they had a 40 point lead. They kept taking shots, kept hustling, kept moving the ball, and most importantly kept playing smart! I feel like this is going to be a key for us to keep on winning. I also have to point out that most of this game was including our “second string” who took command of that floor just as hard as our starting 5.
Another HUGE discussion topic lately has been the one and only, Dwight Howard aka “Foul on You.” For lack of a better word, the fouls on DH in Round 1 were ridiculous. I think we all got a lovely glimpse into what the game could be with all engines going and at full steam ahead. That lovely glimpse was domination. With Howard’s 21 points, 12 rebounds, 5 blocks, and little frustration with fouls, he could just play the game and give even more to the team – making for a sweet victory.
I’m excited about our first win in Round 2 and I’m looking forward to Game 2! Obviously, just because the Hawks basically rolled over and played dead last night doesn’t mean they’re going to tomorrow. Anything can happen, but I believe that if the Magic keep their head on straight, keep cool, calm, and collected, hustle, and play OUR game, we’ll dominate Round 2. Easily.
