Have you ever locked yourself in the laundary room? Have you ever slept on the floor as a punishment? Or how about screamed, yelled, and kicked people out of the house until you were finished? Or maybe cried so hard you made yourself get sick? Or am I the only one? Welcome to my world as an obsessive Duke fan.
You want some explanation? When I was younger when Duke would be losing a game I would sit in the laundary room with the door cracked, listening to the TV until the game would turn in my favor. If we pulled ahead I would come out and watch, if we lost well I would make myself sleep on the floor until we would win again. Bizarre, maybe. Thank God this was the '90's when we barely lost. I'm known to have horrible mood swings during tournament games, unless you're going to root for the Blue Devils then you may as well not be in the same house when they play. I cry, yes I cry when we lose in the tournament, sometimes its a real hard cry too. In 2006 when Duke lost to LSU, which subsequently ended JJ Redick's Duke carreer and in 1993 when Cal beat us ending Bobby Hurley's career, seem to have been the worse. Ever wonder where my deep down hatred for Jason Kidd comes from? Wonder no further, because he single handedly beat us in 1993, yea I hold onto to things.
Now I'm older, more mature, and more educated. Locking myself in the laundary room has turned into turning off the TV and sitting outside until I feel a mood swing. When I was 8, my mom told me I was nuts for sleeping on the floor, but in 1995 when Coach K had to leave and we lost an infinite amount of games, not even making the tournament, that craziness ended there. Good thing too, I was 15 it was time to move on. Well the crying and kicking people out of the house still happens. What can I say?
Now before I move on and give my partial predictions I should let you know with the exception of 1995, I have never put anyone else but Duke as National Champions. I feel it's a bad omen.
I'm not quite sure if there are going to be any huge upsets because there really are no clear cut favorites; there hasn't really been all year long. Every team will be tough, from top to bottom. The team I feel that will be the one to shake things up a bit will be Florida State. I am massively confident that they will handle Gonzaga and I truly believe they will take out Syracuse. Syracuse has been consistent, but there's just something about them I don't like. I also like Marquette making it to the Sweet 16, but besides that I think it's going to be a game of top seeds winning, with the exception of Kentucky. The Wildcats are way to arrogant and inexperienced to make it to the Final Four. I feel they are going to roll up to the Elite 8 and that's where their arrogance is going to check in and they will be 'upset' by the 2 seed, West Virginia.
So without further ado, my Final Four ~ West Virginia, Kansas, Kansas State, and Duke.
Besides me, does anyone remember what happened on April 1, 1991? Indianapolis, Kansas vs Duke. Duke wins 72-65, giving Mike Krzyzewski his first National Championship. That is exactly what I believe will happen this year, Duke/Kansas in the Championship game, and Duke is victorious except this is Coach K's 4th.
If you need me, I will be placing my bets on what plays and crying men will be in "One Shining Moment."
