Martina Navratilova is truly a woman worth admiring.
Arguably one of, if not the best, female tennis player of all time she has battled breast cancer, attempted to climb mountains and has never let age, gender, or sexual orientation ever stop her from doing anything but staying true and honest to herself. She holds 59 Grand Slam championships as well as 9 Wimbledon Singles championships. She retired from tennis multiple times and in 2004 became the older women since 1922 to win the Wimbledon championship at 47 years young! She then came back again and won the US Open in 2006 and insisted it would be her last one.
Martina is very active in the LGBT community. She came out in 1981 and since then has donated time, raised money and, most importantly, awareness for the LGBT community. She is a vegetarian and also dedicates time to organizations like PETA.
In an interview when asked about getting older, Martina replied, “You can do great things regardless of your age if you just believe and, you know, go for it, don't get limited by people that say, 'No, you can't do that because you're too old or because you're heavy or you're not an athlete.' Whatever your limitations might be, don't let them define you. I didn't let it define me."
I could literally go on and on about the things Martina has done in her life that make her worth mentioning.
As a LadyBaller I strive to obtain the confidence, determination, and poise Martina has upheld in her life. Whenever you doubt yourself, think of the things this woman has done. I encourage everyone to do a bit more research on Martina and read some of the powerful and amazing things she has done in her life.
