I’m sitting here, watching the All-Star game and I started thinking about who I would start a franchise with if I had to build from scratch. So, I started thinking a bit more about the lottery teams and decided that this MDM is going to be a true lottery and the worst teams in the NBA are going to get to “rebuild” with this version.
Again, I will go by the worst winning percentage and work my way up to the 13th pick. Feel free to leave your thoughts below.
New Jersey Nets
The Nets are lucky enough to get the first pick in what is going to be the rebirth of their franchise. I feel that there are two players in the NBA that are 1a and 1b when it comes to who the best player is. BUT, with this mock, I am going to say the Nets are bringing the King to Jersey, or Brooklyn…doesn’t really matter, because the Nets just sold out of season tickets by drafting LeBron James. The King will lead the Nets to the playoffs in the first season.
Since LBJ is gone, the T-Wolves waste no time in selecting Kobe Bryant. Bryant is one of the most prolific scorers in NBA history. Let’s see how he does when he goes to Minneapolis, where the Lakers originated.
SIDENOTE: I think Shakira that just came out for a halftime performance….mothers, hide your children. I can hear the Bible Belt running to pray right now! WOW…END SIDENOTE
Golden State Warriors
Here is where the draft can go many different directions, depending on who you ask. Some feel that a team should be built from the inside out, some say the outside in. I say, with the third pick, you should probably take the best available player, which, in my opinion, is Dwayne Wade. He can handle both guard positions and has proven his worth in the league.
SIDENOTE: I can’t concentrate with Shakira gyrating all over my TV. David Stern has probably started his paperwork to fine Mark Cuban for “allowing” this amount of flesh to be shown! Even if it isn’t The Cubes’ fault. END SIDENOTE!
In real life, the Wizards just made a terrible trade with the Mavericks, but on MDM, they get to start anew. Again, you could probably go with about 3 or 4 different players, but I think the best player right now is Chris Paul. CP3 will make DC relevant in the NBA again.
Where to go with this draft? I have a ton of players running through my head right now as to who the Kings should roll with here. After a couple of minutes of thought, I think the Kings are going to take Kevin Durant with this pick. He has shown his ability to score in the league and with the OKC Thunder being built around him, he has shown the ability to lead as well.
Hmmm…who would my hometown team pick if they had to do it all over again? Well, if Larry Bird is in charge, then that means someone white! So, it is down to Dirk Nowitzki and Steve Nash. Nash is an amazing player and his court vision is rarely matched, but I have to give the nod to Dirk here. Bird would pick a player that reminds him of himself here, I’m sure of that!
I don’t think the Pistons want to mess around with this pick like they did when “the class” came out, so I think they will gladly take Carmelo Anthony with this pick. No Darko here, move along.
New York Knicks
When I think back to what the Knicks were when I was a kid, I instantly think of Patrick Ewing. So, with a big man in mind, I am going to say the Knicks select Dwight Howard with this pick. What a great personality to place in the middle of the Big Apple.
The 6ers are going to go with with someone that can get the crowd electrified like back in the AI days, so Derrick Rose is the pick here. One of the best point guards in the league and just beginning his career.
Los Angeles Clippers
The Clippers have purged themselves of Mike Dunleavy’s coaching, but his GM responsibility is still intact. Dunleavy does the fans right by picking Deron Williams with this pick. Maybe the Clippers will start to steal some Lakers’ fans now?
When I say the word “Milwaukee” all I can think of is watching my Grandpa sip on a cold Old Milwaukee beer at the dinner table. With that, I feel that the Bucks will pick an older player here, so I am going with Steve Nash. Milwaukee is close enough to Canada that maybe he can get some family and friends to come visit, eh?
The Bulls are forever crying about not having a proper big man, so they are looking for one here. The names that come to mind right now are Amare, KG, Tim Duncan, and Chris Bosh. I feel that KG and Timmy are still good players, but not at the elite status they once were. Stoudemire has an incredible combination of speed and power, but I think Bosh is the more complete player. The Bulls go with Bosh.
Miami missed out on Bosh, but I think they go with Amare Stoudemire here to get their franchise back on track. Stoudemire is from around that area, so ticket sales would probably go up a bit as well, a double win for the organization.
Well, there you have it. This wasn’t as easy as I thought it would be, except for the first two or three picks really. If you couldn’t tell, I went with players’ current ages and abilities, so that had a lot to do with some players not making this list.
