Today on my way home from work, I was listening to Inside the Magic on AM580. The topic at the time was why Dwight Howard doesn't get enough national attention. Scott Anez (the host) makes the statement that DH just isn't sexy enough to win MVP. WHAT?!?! SEXY ENOUGH?!?!?! I was so confused. The fact that Scotty then goes on to say that DH just doesn't have the sex appeal that LeBron James has pretty much made me drive off the road right after I vomited a little in my mouth at the words sex and LBJ being in the same sentence. So I sat in my car, pretty much mesmerized at the topic that was playing out in my ears, and thought... 'hmmmm, I wonder... I'm going to have to let this sink in’...
So, at the risk of making myself sound old, I've decided that I'm going to look at all the NBA regular season MVPs of my life and just see if these guys had sex appeal... This topic sounds bizarre, but let's see how it plays out.
1979-1980 ~ Kareem Abdul-Jabbar (no, thank you)
1980-1981 ~ Julius Erving (eh, I could force myself to be attracted)
1981-1983 ~ Moses Malone (yeah, moving forward)
1983-1986 ~ Larry Bird (quickly moving forward & never turning back)
1986-87, 1988-1990 ~ Magic Johnson (cute as can be, but never licked my lips at the sight)
1987-88, 1990-92, 1995-96, 1997-98 ~ Michael Jordan (it's almost a cardinal sin to say MJ won MVP based on sex appeal)
1992-1993 ~ Charles Barkley (I think he truly believes that sexiness brought him the trophy *cough laugh gag cough*)
1993-1994 ~ Hakeem Olajuwon (I never had a "Dream" about him)
1994-1995 ~ David Robinson (what a nice guy, cute... but sexy??)
1996-97, 1998-99 ~ Karl Malone (he never delivered me satisfaction)
1999-2000 ~ Shaquille O'Neal (I won't even waste keystrokes)
2000-01 ~ Allen Iverson (hmmmm... he was legitimately good at one point in life)
2001-2003 ~ Tim Duncan (ummmm... he kind of scares me)
2003-2004 ~ Kevin Garnett (don't even think he's 'nice guy' cute)
2004-2006 ~ Steve Nash (a face only a mother could love)
2006-2007 ~ Dirk Nowitzki (I'll leave this space blank at the fear of angering someone)
2007-2008 ~ Kobe Bryant (yes, please)
2008-2009 ~ LeBron James (is this face dog or human)
I guess what I'm trying to say is that I can't believe they wasted 30 minutes of Inside the Magic discussing this and taking calls on it.
In my personal opinion, I just think Orlando is in a smaller market and, because of that, our players don't get quite as much attention.
Anyone else hear this segment or think that Dwight just isn't sexy enough? Eh, ridiculous!
Oh and by the way, Apolo is up to 7 medals and the USA ROCKS!!!!
